 Healthcare professionals are among the most respected, valued members in any society- and also regulated. It attracts some of talented, innovative resilient individuals who keen to do good. Respect, job satisfaction autonomy fundamental experience professional, often above financial or material reward. Doctors no different.
 Education training healthcare workforce is a lengthy resource intense process. No nation-state can be truly self-sufficient. Hence migration reality where various pull push factors lead moving across countries continents, service populations.
 Society divided along many lines steeped with structural inequalities. Many these result thousands years history, legacy societal wrongs. services reflect similar patterns 'big society'.
 The phenomenon differential attainment (DA), which subject this report simply manifestation such DA outcomes for doctors due their age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability, socio-economic deprivation influenced by migrant status - rather than motivation, ability, effort enterprise.
 fundamentally unfair. Those affected either unaware unable counteract influence on careers. leads demoralisation, disengagement poor patients. takes its toll not only careers but lives livelihoods. huge under-utlisation human resources- true waste talent This report- BTG21 focuses medical profession exploring career cycle through themes recruitment, assessments, progression, research & academia, leadership roles, awards professionalism.
